TAKA operates to remote regions of Australias Great Barrier Reef. We dive with the giant Potato Cod at the Cod Hole, feed the sharks in the crystal clear waters of Osprey Reef in the Coral Sea and visit some truly amazing sites up and down the Ribbons Reef.
A LIFE EXPERIENCE, NOT TO BE MISSED!
Taka Dive Adventures has been operating liveaboard dive trips for over 18 years to the Cod Hole, Osprey Reef in the Coral Sea and the Ribbon Reefs. Our new purpose-built dive vessel was launched in January 2004 setting a higher standard in dive travel.
The famous Cod Hole attracts divers from all over the world combined with the Shark Feed at Osprey Reef is certainly a dive trip of a lifetime.
Osprey reef in the Coral Sea is one of the most spectacular dive sites in the world. Offering a diverse range of shark life all year round and pristine soft coral unlike anything you have ever seen before.
On our shark feed dive, you are more than likely to see anywhere from 10 to 70 sharks at a time.
Some of our most frequent visitors include: Grey reef sharks (AKA Grey Whalers), Black tip reef sharks, White tip reef sharks, Wobbegong sharks, Epaulette sharks and the larger Oceanic Silver Tip sharks. Hammerhead sharks can sometimes been seen at North Horn in late winter and into spring of each year.
During June, July and early August we have the Dwarf Minke Whale Season each year. Taka Dive passengers travelling during this time have the opportunity to contribute to the research of these whales. We team up with the James Cook University researchers, and record all sightings of these fantastic mammals. All passengers who have had interaction with the Minkes fill in a questionnaire, which helps to further research. Diving with these majestic creatures will be the most exciting and momentous experience of your life.
The amazing sightings are not limited to the Coral Sea, this year along the Ribbon Reefs the diving has been spectacular. Frequent sightings include various Nudibranchs, Manta Rays, Giant Australian Cuttlefish, Loggerhead and Green Turtles, Moray Eels, Red Flame File Shell, Lionfish and the best Marine life the Great Barrier Reef has to offer.
TAKA is a 30 meter mono hull steel vessel which was specially rebuilt for extended live aboard dive travel. TAKA carries 30 passengers in the following cabins:
1 x Master Stateroom
5 x Double/Twin Ensuite
4x Standard Twin, 2 bunks (share bathroom)
1x Standard Twin, 1 double and 1 single bunk (share bathroom)
2 x Quad Share (share bathroom) all air/conditioned.
TAKA has a cruising range of 2500 nautical miles, has a water capacity of 38,000 litres and can make up to 3,000 litres of fresh water per day.
Bulbous bow The bulbous bow allows for a finer entry into the water, and keeps the nose of the vessel level, which in turn stabilizes the entire hull.
Hull Stability The extra wide beam allows more room inside the vessel, and this coupled with the ballast tank arrangement prevent rolling while on anchor
MTU V12 main engine We have more power than is needed, so we are able to run at reduced revs, keeping the noise levels down and still maintaining good speed.
Bow and Stern Thrusters These mean we can move away from a dive site in an emergency while divers are still in the water with no danger from the propeller
Internet Access We have used the latest technology to be able to provide internet access from 90% of our dive locations. Passengers shall be able to e-mail home their digital images almost immediately after a dive.
Entertainment System Plasma screens, Denon Hi Fi equipment, in-house movies, Xbox, Intercoms-it's all there! The entire boat is also wired with Cat 6 computer cable for any future gizmos that come out.
Room, Room, and more Room Have a good look around- with only 30 pax, space is not an issue. Plenty of places to be or hide - your choice!
